Dating Safety Tips

Practical advice for staying safe while chatting online and when you meet a match in person.
Most people you meet on iamU are here for the same reason you are. These habits help keep it that way.
While chatting
- Protect your personal information. Don't share your home address, workplace, financial details or passwords.
- Never send money. No matter how convincing the story, never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you met online.
- Stay on iamU until you feel comfortable. Scammers often push to move to another app quickly.
- Video call first. A quick call on iamU helps confirm the person is who they say they are.
- Report suspicious behaviour. Use Report on any profile or message that feels wrong.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a busy public place, such as a café or restaurant, and stay there for the first date.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you're meeting and when you expect to be back. You can add trusted contacts in Settings.
- Arrange your own transport to and from the date.
- Keep your phone charged and with you.
- Stay in control of your drinks and don't leave them unattended.
- Trust your instincts. You can leave at any time, for any reason.
If something goes wrong
- If you're in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
- Report the member on iamU so our safety team can act.
- Block anyone who makes you uncomfortable. They will no longer be able to see or contact you.
